CANDLE CARE

Below are tips we recommend you follow to optimize your North of Thirty candle burning experience.

Before Burning:
  • Read the warning label.
  • Trim wick at least 1/8" to 1/4" before each use. NOTE: Do not cut wooden wick too low; cutting too low can prevent the wick from re-lighting. Wooden wicks should be about 1/8" above the wax.
  • Remove any debris from the candle before lighting.
While Burning:
  • To prevent tunneling, allow candle to burn long enough to melt to the edge of the vessel; this is particularly important for your first burn.
  • If flame becomes too high or flickers erratically, extinguish candle. Once cool, break off the ash at the tip of the wick or trim wick with your North of Thirty wick trimmer.
  • Do not leave candle unattended.
  • Do not burn candle near a vent or fan.
  • Do not burn more than 3-4 hours at a time.
  • Never use water to extinguish candle.
Other tips we recommend:
Wooden wicks require a bit more care than traditional cotton wicks. Wooden wicks do not “mushroom” or “bloom”. In other words, they do not form a black ball at the top of the wick like what one would see when burning a cotton wick after some time.  Although wooden wicks generally burn cleaner and do not form carbon build-up at the tip of the wick, it is normal for them to develop a slight amount of ash. This ash can easily be broken off when cool or cut using a wick trimmer before relighting.

If there is too much ash build-up, you may notice the flame getting smaller. However, once you remove it, the flame comes right back to life.  If you experience excess sooting, trim your wick to 1/8’’ above the wax
